What Does a Facial Massage Do for Your Skin?

Most facials include some form of facial massage, often extending to your neck and shoulders, your head, and your arms and hands. Massages is crucial and can’t be skimped on because your facial muscles work just as hard as the rest of the muscles in your body so it can benefit from a rubdown. “The pressure created by the massage technique helps move blood through congested areas, causing new blood to flow in,” explains renowned esthetician Georgina Louise. That boost in circulation is what gets you glowing, but other benefits include improved skin tone and muscle contouring; headache, neck-tension and stress relief; alleviating nervous disorders; and correcting liver and gall bladder imbalances.

The techniques
When performing an extensive facial massage, it’s best to target sinus pressure points and lymphatic drainage. By performing acupuncture points on the sinuses, your esthetician is helping you to relieve stress, which may be aggravating your sinuses.

Lymphatic drainage is important for improving acne-prone skin, the appearance of the dark circles and water retention. When a skin is inflamed with pimples, you don’t want to stimulate the skin any further with other massage technique. BUT- by gently kneading the pressure point on the face it can help unlock strain (bye-bye headaches) and assist on the removal of toxins without spreading the infection.

Can You Have a Facial After Fillers?
The answer is yes. While you may have noticed your skin is visibly firmer and tighter from the injections, but lost the smoothness and glow. Many have thought they will need to forgo their monthly facials after injections because the filler will be moved or dented from all the facial massage but that’s not true. We would suggest to schedule a facial a week after your dermatologist appointment and you will leave beaming after your facial.

As the old saying goes, “Great skin doesn’t happen by chance, it happens with appointments with your dermatologist and esthetician.”
